ALBANY, Oregon – An Albany man is asking for help, after someone stole backup control system for his mechanical heart pump.

Mark Dempsey says he was with friends Saturday night, and when he returned to his car, someone had taken the device inside a bag that was in the back of his car.

Dempsey says the device is an exterior portion of a Left Ventricular Assist Device called the Heartmate II.

Dempsey told the Albany Democrat-Herald that he isn’t interested in prosecuting the person who took the device, he just wants it back.
