Portland, Oregon – Up to 5,000 volunteers are expected to take part in SOLVE’s annual spring beach clean up tomorrow. It runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at beaches from Astoria down to Brookings.
Joy Irby, SOLVE’s program coordinator says “last year, over 4,000 volunteers removed nearly 28 tons of debris from our coastline. That’s equivalent to about five orca whales.”
The clean up began in 1984 and since that time, more than 220,000 volunteers have removed an estimated 2.8 million pounds of debris from the coast.
