He gets Life in prison.
Jeffrey Johnson shot Ryan Johnson six times in broad daylight outside the Thriftway store. He later admitted shooting Ryan, but his attorneys argued throughout the trial that he snapped because he was scared for the safety of his grandchild.
Ryan, 22, was the father of a now 5-year-old son with Jeffrey’s daughter. Although the two men shared the same last name, they were not related.
Before the shooting, the two men had argued numerous times over custody of the boy. During the trial, Jeffrey’s attorney said this long-running dispute caused “extreme emotional disturbance” which led to his client losing control on the day he shot Ryan.
The state countered that the murder was well-planned and calculated and therefore Jeffrey should be convicted of murder, instead of the lesser manslaughter charge. In the end, the jury sided with prosecutors.
