KEIZER, Or – Keizer Police say an armed man confronted an employee of a Brink’s armored truck as he was trying to service an ATM machine Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Jeffrey Kuhns says the employee entered a vacant Roth’s grocery store to access the ATM when he was confronted by a gunman. Kuhns says the employee was able to lock himself inside a room, and then contacted his partner in the truck
The driver of the armored truck told 911 dispatchers his co-worker had been robbed Tuesday afternoon. The driver remained in the truck.
Salem police SWAT officers rushed to the Schoolhouse Square business complex as a nearby business was evacuated and McNary High School was locked down.
Kuhns says officers escorted the armored truck worker from the building and says he was not hurt.
Investigators think the armed man fled before police arrived, but won’t say whether the suspect was able to get any money.
Because the incident involves an armored truck, the FBI is now assisting in the investigation.
The Statesman Journal reports the suspect is described as either white or Hispanic, 5-feet-11, with a medium build. The armored truck employee says he was wearing a gray hoodie pulled tightly around his face.
