PORTLAND — Police say a man was drunk when he crashed his car onto the Max tracks right as service was beginning Wednesday morning.
The mess caused a headache for riders headed to the west side as they had to get off and board a shuttle bus.
An operator headed westbound into the Robertson Tunnel just past the Goose Hollow Transit Station spotted the car on the tracks at least 300′ into the tunnel and called it in.
28-year-old James Dejarnette was arrested for DUII and reckless driving. He was not injured.
The 1999 Hyundai four-door was towed out of the tunnel and trains were moving again within two hours.
In November of 2012, another drunk driver was arrested after speeding and crashing into the tunnel at the Sunset Transit Center, damaging the tracks and dragging trees along with him.
