Portland, Oregon – Hanjin Shipping says it will keep making its weekly call to Portland. But it says it will evaluate cost controls and productivity each quarter.
“Hanjin has been a valued customer of the Port for 20 years and they have an important shipping franchise in this market,” according to Sam Ruda, the Port’s chief commercial officer.
Hanjin is the largest container carrier calling on Terminal Six. The service represents nearly 80 percent of the container activity at the terminal with an average of 1,600 containers per week.
The governor has asked for an independent review of operations and productivity at the terminal. Port spokesman Josh Thomas says the idea is not to point fingers, but to look at the root cause for low productivity and what to do about it.
