Clackamas County, Oregon – Boaters are being warned not to pass under the Old Trolley Bridge near High Rocks on the Clackamas River.A construction crew working near the abandoned bridge early today noticed a bridge piling start to tilt and called the county. The piling moved roughly four feet in just a few hours.
County engineers says the shift is significant and there is real concern about the overall stability of the bridge. This is steelhead season and there are boat launches above the area at Riverside Park and below the bridge at Meldrum Bar Park.
Union Pacific owns the bridge and has engineers evaluating the situation. The bridge is an abandoned part of an old trolley line that connect Oregon City with Portland.
