Bulletproofed Felon Tries To Cut Into ATM

Written by Jeremy Scott on March 3, 2014

PORTLAND — A man who failed to rip off an ATM early Sunday morning was prepared for a fight.  Someone saw Mark Fischer using a blow torch to try and cut into the machine and steal cash from a U.S. Bank ATM at Southeast 36th and Powell.

Police found the 32-year-old felon walking through a parking lot.  He squirted pepper spray at an officer and missed.  Fischer dropped a backpack and ran, but he didn’t get far.

Police found an acetylene torch, stun gun and large knife.  He was wearing two ballistic vests with bulletproof panels sewn into his underwear.  Fischer was arrested on a list of charges.
