PORTLAND — The teen who beat 70-year-old Larry Allen with a skateboard outside the Portland Outdoor Store downtown last summer reached a plea deal with prosecutors and was sentenced Tuesday to five years behind bars for assault.

19-year-old Daniel Dorson was arrested in Northern California in October and brought back to Oregon to face charges in Multnomah County.

Witnesses say Allen asked a group of street kids hanging out in front of the store to move so he could pressure wash the sidewalks.  They resisted, arguing that it was public property.

Dorson is accused of beating Allen over the head with the skateboard, leaving him bloody with a gash near his right eye.

Dorson refused to apologize, saying only that he was defending his home.  Allen was in the courtroom and says he was nervous being in the same room.

Two year would have been plenty of time. Two years ago he would have been considered a child. Some people get far less time for manslaughter. This much time may destroy this kids life.
