5 Hour Energy Targeted By State Of Oregon

Written by Steve Leader on February 24, 2014

A popular energy drink is under investigation by the Oregon Department of Justice.  It is accusing the owners and marketers of “5 Hour Energy” of violating the state’s Unlawful Trade Practices Act.

The D.O.J says the health effects of the product, which combines caffeine with tyrosine and phenylalanine, are not known.  The state’s complaint refers to “92 adverse incident reports”  involving 5 Hour Energy in a federal database.

The basis for the investigation includes 5 Hour Energy’s claim that there’s no crash once the drink’s effect wears off.

A D.O.J. spokesman, Michael Kron, tells FM News 101 it’s too soon to know whether the investigation will result in penalties.  The state’s complaint says 5 Hour Energy has not responded to its request for documents.
