Another Hole Opens in Southeast Portland

Written by Christina Kemp on February 20, 2014

If you thought a woman being swallowed by a sinkhole was frightening, how about the possibility of your entire home being devoured?

Portland fire fighters have no idea how it happened. They don’t know how big it is. And they have no idea what to do other then put up yellow caution tape. Justin Wynn’s SE Portland home is sitting partially over a 20-foot-deep sinkhole. How far does it stretch under the house? Wynn doesn’t know.

“I’m doing research, trying to find a company who can repair it. I don’t know what to do.”

Wynn’s father first noticed the massive sinkhole when he went into the backyard. This home is also in southeast, but not in the same neighborhood as the sinkhole a woman fell into the other day. Wynn says he was told the sinkhole could grow in size if weight is added to the area of the home that sits on it. So for now, he’s steering clear.
