Two popular parks in Salem have closed due to rising water levels that pose a danger to visitors. Wallace Marine Park and Minto-Brown Park were closed Saturday, with barriers set up to discourage vehicle traffic.
Citizens welcome the rain, but don’t mind the closures for safety reasons.
“”It’s full. All the way up to the softball fields, covers all the fields, covers the roads. It’s a pretty quick current.”, said one man.
The Willamette river is currently at about 9 feet, only half of what is considered flood stage, but is projected to rise as far as 24 feet and could reach flood stages by Tuesday.
A flood watch is in effect through Sunday afternoon for most of northwest Oregon.
