Saved By Wool Coat After Six Nasty Nights

Written by Steve Leader on February 14, 2014

A 52-year old  woman who spent six snowy nights in the woods above a pioneer cemetary in Cottage Grove, with no water or food, may owe her life to a wool coat.

Police say when they found Sharon Bates Thursday she told them she went for a walk in the woods last Friday for some peace and quiet, but got stuck in a pit and couldn’t climb out.

Officer Conrad Gagner tells FM News 101 Bates was dressed in khakis, blouse and a windbreaker.   When they found her, Bates was laying on the ground, covered with her wool coat.

Police say she was weak, de-hydrated, but otherwise okay.  Gagner says the area where Bates was found has cell service.  She left her phone at home.
