The Portland Association of Teachers says substitutes are being threatened by the Portland School District with loss of hours and health insurance if they Don’t show up for work in the event of a teacher’s strike.

The School District claims there email to substitutes just outlines the responsibilities that subs have if teachers walk out.

The union has filed an unfair labor complaint saying their contract does not require them to cross a picket line if they choose not to.

Sounds more like the union is the one doing it to the children they teach and the parents who will have to find some way if they both work to take care of those children who cannot be at home alone during the day. Nothing new for the teachers as they use this to get what they want others cannot strike in some public sector jobs and have to make do with a normal bargaining process to arrive at what they want.
