PORTLAND — Hospitals have lifted their restrictions on visitors as fewer people are coming in sick with the flu of late. An outbreak over the past month led both Providence and Legacy to restrict the most vulnerable people from visiting patents.
Still, doctors stress that the flu season is not over and it’s not too late to get vaccinated.
“We will continue to ask people to take reasonable precautions, including covering their coughs or sneezes, washing their hands and staying home when they are sick,” said Jean Powell Marks with Providence.
Emergency rooms were swamped for much of January with people sick from the flu.
The number one thing that can stop the virus from spreading is washing hands. If you have respiratory symptoms and a fever of 101 degrees or higher, officials say stay home.
