School Board is packed with Dissenters

Written by Mike Turner on January 27, 2014

Portland Teachers and their supporters at times shouted down Superintendent Carole Smith and the school board Monday night with some yelling the district had no leadership.

School Board member Steve Buel voted against the majority to stash away 14 million in a reserve fund instead of hiring more teachers. He accused the board of merely rubber stamping district decisions.

Portland Public Schools and its largest union have been at an impasse for months in an extended contract negotiations process that could lead to the district’s first-ever strike.

Well see that the teachers and others are doing a good job of controlling themselves at another meeting because they didn’t agree with the board. Its too bad they don’t present themselves better and work within rather than shout people down.
