Parents, Students and Teachers Want Racial Equity

Written by Mike Turner on January 21, 2014

The Portland Teachers Solidarity Campaign want more help for troubled students. Parent Katherine Earl says the district would rather expel her son from Jefferson High School instead of getting him the counseling help he needs.

Grant High School Teacher Kim Delgado complains there aren’t enough counselors to help the students and she adds the Portland School District had the money to lower class sizes and hire more counselors.

They plan another march on next Monday’s school board meeting to demand more racial equity in the district.

I am glad this made it to the media but I sure wish it was more than a quick blurb. Some background would have been good.
