Firm Will Review Problems with Cover Oregon

Written by Rosemary Reynolds on January 9, 2014

PORTLAND — Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber met with reporters today at an OHSU Clinic in the Richmond neighborhood.  He says the state has commissioned an independent review of what went wrong with Cover Oregon’s website.  Cover Oregon is the state’s Health Insurance marketplace.  The company First Data will conduct the review and report directly to the Governor.  Oracle has had technical problems from the beginning.

The governor said.”This is a great day.”  He explained that as of today 170,000 Oregonians gained health coverage. 55,000 enrolled through Cover Oregon and 115,000 through the Oregon Health Plan. Because of all the problems with the website the state has been manually processing applications.

The Governor says he isn’t sure when Cover Oregon’s enrollment system  will be up and running.  The Federal Deadline for enrollment in the Affordable Care Act is in March.
