Portland, Oregon – NBC’s Grimm is no longer the only TV police detective show to be shot in Portland. USA Today says FOX TV has picked up an hour long crime drama called Backstrom. Rainn Wilson who starred in NBC’s hit TV comedy, The Office, plays detective Everett Backstrom, who’s described as offensive. He leads the Serious Crimes Unit and in the pilot, he and his team try to figure out if the death of a senator’s son is suicide or murder.
Backstrom was originally a CBS pilot, but the network passed on it last spring. FOX will air 13 episodes with no premiere date set .
This is new territory for Wilson who played Dwight Schrute on The Office, which ended last year. Fox issued a statement that says Wilson’s character is “a delightfully disheveled misanthrope with a twisted, brilliant mind and a heart of barbed wire. Truly the role of a lifetime.”
