Tonya Harding had the world at her fingertips. The first American female to complete a triple axle in competition. The second in the world. Unfortunately it’s not the impressive triple axle that she’s remembered by, but rather a scandal that would stretch far beyond figure skating circles and into every Americans home.

It’s what has became known as “The Whack Heard Round the World.”

Nancy Kerrigan clubbed in the knee with a police baton by Shane Stant. However, the unbelievable soap opera of jealousy and deceit to follow the tragedy wouldn’t surround Stant, but rather her competitor and teammate– Tonya Harding.

Harding, her ex-husband, and a couple friends plotted to take out Nancy Kerrigan’s knees, so the native Portlander would win the 94′ U.S. Figure Skating Championship and secure her spot in the Olympics games.

Both are now in there 40′s and live very different lives.

Harding now lives in rural central Oregon with her third husband and two-year old son who is soon to be three. She’s tried many things including acting, singing (where she was booed off stage with her group the “Golden Blades”) and even professional boxing. None of those ever worked out for Harding, and she now helps her husband with woodworking jobs.

As for Karrigan, she lives in Boston with her husband of nearly 20-years. She makes her living off of endorsements, corporate appearances and skating shows.
