Portland, Oregon – If you are a distracted diner, you are one of The Food Channel’s top food trends for 2014. Executive Editor Kay Logsdon says restaurants are beginning to put their menu items into forms to accommodate people who have the cell phone in one hand and their meal in the other hand. She says we’re seeing more wraps, sandwiches and small bites.
Another trend this year, according to The Food Channel, is bread. While some are going gluten free, those who still eat bread are taking it to the next level with artisanal bread and hamburgers that are more about the bun than the meat.
Afternoon tea is trending, thanks in part to the hit TV show, Downton Abbey. Logsdon says it’s also linked to the move toward more frequent, small meals. Another trend is The Midwestern Food Movement which includes steak, root vegetables and fried chicken. Ethnic inspired foods are also trending this year, according to The Food Channel.
