The Oregon Parks Department is considering banning smoking not only in common areas of parks, but also on hiking trails, picnic areas and common areas of campgrounds.  They are following marching orders from the Governor to cut down on everyone’s exposure to second hand smoke as well as left behind cigarette butts.  Four different public hearings are scheduled over the next couple of weeks.

The Parks Commission is set to take up the issue next month.  The ordinance would not be in effect until next year.  It would not apply to beaches ore personal camp sites.
