PORTLAND — A car crashed into the Plaid Pantry at Southeast 82nd and Duke early Thursday morning, sending an ATM flying across the floor and leaving a big hole in the front of the store.  Luckily, nobody was hurt.

Gary is a regular and was surprised when he showed up for his morning cup of coffee.  “It looks like New Years Eve went on a little long,” he said.

The driver backed up and sped away.  The vehicle with a man and woman inside hit two parked cars several blocks away on Tolman Street and couldn’t go any further.  The driver ran away and hasn’t been found.  Police questioned her passenger.

Workers had quite the mess to clean-up and the store closed for repairs.  They were sweeping up glass and metal debris and replacing the infrastructure.

Tim lives just 40′ away: “I’m a little surprised because they put these big posts up to keep cars from coming through and they picked the one spot that fits a car”.
