Portland, Oregon – The Oregon Parks Department wants you to take a hike on New Year’s Day and it will help you do it. It is offering free, guided hikes in a number of parks and is waiving the day use parking fee for tomorrow only.

This is the third year  for the program. Parks spokesman Chris Havel says last year 400 people took part.

Among the Portland area parks offering free hikes tomorrow are Stub Stewart, Tryon and Rooster Rock state parks.
