If you are thinking of buying a new car, now might be the time. Nick Smit with Gresham Subaru says the last two weeks of the year are always the busiest for car dealers. There are a few reasons for that, according to Smit. First, people get money for Christmas and they want to put that towards a new car. Also, manufacturers want to push out their inventory to boost their numbers for the year, so they offer incentives and rebates. In fact, Smit says there are more rebates and incentives offered in the last two weeks of December than any other time of year.
Gresham Subaru sold 10 new cars on the day after Christmas and hope to sell 102 by the end of the year. Smit admits that is a big number but he thinks they’ll hit it. He says they are back to 2006-2007 levels in terms of number of cars sold. He says things really tanked in 2008 but have increased gradually every year since then.
Smit is definitely prepared for the end of the year rush. He has 3 sales crews working each day. Usually he has 2.
