PORTLAND — A driver lost control of their vehicle on Southwest Barbur Boulevard early Friday morning, crossing the median into the oncoming lanes where the car hit a large tree near Miles Street.
The passenger was killed and the driver seriously injured in the 35th deadly crash in Portland this year.
Police first said that the passenger, 28-year-old Dmitriy Maksimov, was thrown from the car and landed outside, but later determined that he was not ejected.
29-year-old Audy Molina-Colindres was trapped in the wreckage and cut free before being arrested for manslaughter, reckless driving and DUII.
Barbur, also known as Highway 99W, was closed for five hours. There have been nearly 130 accidents along a two-mile stretch between 2008 and last year. A woman died near the same intersection in a fiery crash just last month.
