About 100 people are expected at the New Columbia Community Education Center Saturday to participate in traditions celebrating the 3rd day of Kwanzaa. Shafia Monroe is the founder and president of the International Center for Traditional Childbearing. It is one organizations sponsoring the event. Monroe says there will be refreshments, music, family activities, even presents for children. Everyone will also have the opportunity to drink from the Unity Cup, a Kwanzaa tradition.
Kwanzaa was first celebrated in 1966. It’s a week long celebration with each day honoring a core principle. For more information on the holiday, click here.
