PORTLAND — The man who was hit by a Max train and trapped underneath the massive vehicle at the stop on Southeast 94th and Division on Sunday night has died.

TriMet says the man stepped in front of a southbound train on the green line as it was coming into the platform.  He was semi-conscious as firefighters freed him.  Paramedics climbed under the train to give the man first aid while crews worked to lift the train car off.

“The rails are 3″ high, so we had to lift the train off of the track and then lift it another 5 to 6″ so we had enough room to pull that man to safety,” said firefighter Ron Rouse.

48-year-old Phu Nguyen later passed away from his injuries at the hospital.
