The Portland School District and  PAT, The Portland Association of Teacher  reached tentative agreements on four contract issues on Wednesday during a mediation session. The issues include teacher evaluation and complaint procedure.

The two sides will hold direct talks December 20th, January 2 and 3. A mediation session is set for  January 6th.

Superintendent Carole Smith says ” during these talks, we’ve been able to have meaningful dialogue with PAT’s team and reach some important agreements.” PAT President Gwen Sullivan says “every time we are able to come together with district leaders and share the experience, hopes and concerns of teachers working on the front lines with students, we move closer to a settlement.”

An impasse was declared  earlier this month. The two sides are trying to avoid a strike.
