A study by a non-profit, non-partisan, research group finds vast differences in pensions costs  among 173 American cities surveyed.

Preliminary research by the Center for State and Local Government Excellence shows the city with the lowest pension burden, as a share of city revenue, is Vancouver, Washington.

Researchers examined the percentage of city revenue that went toward retirement benefits for municipal employees, school district employees and county employees.   Vancouver’s was 1%.

The study ranks Portland’s pension costs 10th highest in the nation.  Retirement benefits in the Rose City take 13% of city revenues.
