Death Row Death

Written by Steve Leader on December 16, 2013

SALEM — Oregon’s death row is smaller by one.  The state says Allen Gary Zweigart, who murdered his wife in 2002 in Columbia County, died Saturday in a prison infirmary of natural causes.  He was 64.

That leaves 35 men and one woman still waiting to die.  They include Dayton Leroy Rogers.  He’s been labeled Oregon’s worst serial killer.  Christian Longo is also on death row.  He slaughtered his wife and their three children.  Randy Lee Guzek has been on death row the longest since March of 1988.  He’s been sentenced to death four times.

Oregon has not executed anyone since 1997, and Governor Kitzhaber has put a stay on all executions while he’s in office.
