PORTLAND — No doubt, you’ll find long lines at the post office today. That’s the case at the main post office downtown on Northwest Hoyt. It’s the busiest day of the year for them with only a few days left to send cards and packages through the mail to arrive in time for Christmas.
People we talked with say they don’t mind the wait. “It is what it is”, said one woman.
Some of the gifts were headed to Chicago, Iowa, Georgia, New York and elsewhere. The popular gifts included anything Ducks or Beavers, and coffee mugs.
The post office has brought in more staff and reminds you to mail your goodies by this Friday, December 20th if you want them to reach their destination by Christmas.
The FedEx hub in Memphis has 10,000 employees processing about 140 packages per second. That’s a half million in a single hour. The USPS will process more than 607 million pieces of mail today alone.
