GLADSTONE, Ore. — Police found the body of a newborn baby boy in a Clackamas County park early on Tuesday morning. The mother says the father murdered the five-month-old while they were staying at a motel and then discarded the remains in a wooded area.
Staff at the Budget Inn on McLoughlin Boulevard say the couple stayed there last week, but the baby wasn’t with them when they checked out. Employees found baby clothes that they left behind in their room. Other guests say it appears that the couple weren’t taking good care of the infant.
Reports of the body found in a dumpster at the motel were false. They believe that somebody in a Chevy Blazer with Oregon plates drove the body into the woods early Saturday afternoon. The vehicle was recovered in Salem, but police haven’t said if they’re looking for the driver.
The couple checked into another motel there where the woman met Jennifer Dalbey and they began to talk.
“She said I wish I could tell you what he did. He’s a sick dude, he’s so messed up what he did to me. He killed my baby.”
Dalbey says the woman told her they were high on shards for days and when she finally woke up to make the baby a bottle, he was stiff and cold. She drove the mother to the Gladstone Police Department where she told investigators that the father suffocated the baby and got rid of the body.
Police are not considering the mother as a suspect.
