Frozen Pipes Causing Chaos

Written by Christina Kemp on December 9, 2013

As the freezing temperatures continue Portlanders are having problems with broken pipes. Calls have been coming in by the dozens to the fire department.

“I live in an apartment and there is a pipe that burst. Water is coming down and the fire alarms are going off. We need someone to turn off the water.”

Portland fire has been inundated with 911 calls. Lieutenant Rich Chatman says he expects them to keep coming in.

When it comes down to it we are in the business of saving lives and property. And these broken pipes can cause issues with both of those priorities for us.”

He says his crews will come shut off the water and help remove standing water if they can.
