53 Drunk Drivers Nailed Over Christmas Break
December 26, 2012, 12:55 pm
Police were busy roping in drunk drivers over the holiday break. Between Friday evening and Christmas night, Oregon State Troopers arrested 53 people who were intoxicated behind the wheel, nearly twice as many as last year.
The bulk of arrests statewide were in Portland, 10, and 8 in Springfield. Other drivers helped prevent a pair of crashes by reporting impaired drivers on I-205, both leading to arrests.
Authorities will be out in force looking for drivers showing signs of being impaired through New Year's Day as part of the
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
30% of traffic fatalities across the country in December 2010 involved drunk drivers, 71% of which were twice the legal limit.
