The top two candidates from the May primary faced each other Tuesday night in a run-off for Portland Mayor. Former City Commissioner Charlie Hales met State Representative Jefferson Smith.
Two-thirds of voters filled in the oval for Hales. He took 67% of the vote to Smith's 33%. Afterwards, Hales gave thanks and promised again to refocus on the city's basic services.
In his concession speech, Smith said he took responsibility for mistakes that he made. He says he's exhausted from the campaign and isn't sure what's next for him.
