Bank Of America: Now With Improved Citizen Screwing Power!
Bank of America has some serious explaining to
do to its customers.
Last week, the bank
loaned twenty million dollars to Clackamas County. The money was then used to pre pay a bill for
light rail. What the bank had every
reason to know, was that ballots will be counted tomorrow to let voters have a
say in all light rail funding.
I’m sure
that the bank didn’t violate the letter of the law. But when bank customers find out that
Clackamas County Commissioners determined to pay a bill they know their
constituents don’t want paid, they’ll
have to answer for that at the next election.
I’ll bet there are plenty of B of A customers who won’t like the idea
of a Bank helping rogue politicians circumvent the will of the voters. Banks spend lots of advertising money to tell
folks that they’re part of the community, warm and fuzzy, care about the little
guy and really want to earn your business. I don’t bank with B of A but if I did,
my accounts would be on their way out the door to another bank right now.
It surprises me that the bank’s underwriters
would make such a loan given that they know there is a public groundswell
against paying for TriMet’s gold plated, 1.5 billion dollar choo-choo
train.
Tomorrow when the votes are counted,
we’ll get an idea of how strong opposition is…and I’m sure that starting today,
BofA will be counting its lost customers.
