Build a Bridge. Move a Bike Path. Destroy a Home.
The Sellwood Bridge project has been underway for quite some time, and there hasn't been much talk about the impact this new bridge might have on the neighborhoods around it.
I received an email from a listener who is being directly impacted by this project. Part of the bridge project involves relocating part of the Willamette Greenway Trail bike and pedestrian path. The committee wants to make sure the trail goes along the Willamette River, and, apparently, the current plan that has the most support would involve the demolition of a man's house and business.
Mike Dowd, the man whose property is in jeopardy, joined me today to outline the proposed project, how it impacts him, and why this is a horrible idea. Mike also happens to be an architect, and is qualified to speak on issues such as this.
