Hungry for The Hunger Games

Up until about a month ago, I had never heard of The Hunger Games.  It’s a trilogy of books about young people who fight to the death to feed their families. That’s a real basic description but you get the idea.  There's a strong female lead with some romance in there as well.  This sci fi book is being made into a movie that hits theaters this weekend and young people are going crazy.   As of Wednesday, pre-sale tickets topped the $15 Million mark.  Two thousand shows had already sold out.  I talked to some kids at Grant High and they couldn’t wait to line up for the midnight showing all dressed in the characters they love.  Some of the male students summed up the movie craze as “stupid,” but most of the students were excited.  When I asked how it compared to the Twilight series, most said this was “more serious” and impactful.

A drama teacher at Grant HS says this has some political and social overtones and it really is a good book to read and hopefully a good movie to see too.  Box office experts expect this will top $85 Million in sales this weekend.   I’ll buy the popcorn.
