Oregon's unemployment rate is 8.4% for the second straight month, unchanged from January. It has essentially held steady for the past six months and is a half-percentage point lower than a year ago.
Nearly 7,000 Oregonians went back to work last month, with 6,000 jobs added in the private sector and five major industries adding at least 800 jobs in February.
"Oregon’s job growth has mostly been in the service sectors such as leisure and hospitality, retail and trade," says Nick Beleiciks of the Oregon Employment Department. "Also professional and business services has really seen a lot of growth over the last year."
He says Oregon is on track to regain all of the jobs that were lost during the recession by the second quarter of 2015.
The state's unemployment rate is still higher than the national average of 7.7%.
