The Denver Broncos have been making a lot of news in free agency – both good and bad.  So far this offseason, they have locked up one of the best wide receivers, one of the best cornerbacks and one of the best interior linemen available.  But they also took an embarrassing cap hit while possibly losing one of their defensive starters, Elvis Dumervil, because they were using out-dated technology.  Marvin Washington, a very good friend of the program and former Denver Bronco himself, joined Chad on Flight 750 Monday to talk about the Broncos crazy free agency period.

Washington insists that there is no excuse for the Broncos and Dumervil not getting a deal done unless the team was just planning to release him.

“With today’s technology, everybody has got a scanner or you can even use an electronic signature.  I just think with that kind of money that they had out there – A plane ticket worth $1,000 to get to Colorado and get this done and then the millions that he lost – He should have fired the agent.  As soon as it happened I was like ‘The agent’s fired’.”

He also says that he hopes the Broncos can find a way to bring Dumervil back to the team, but he doesn’t seem very optimistic that that will happen.

“I don’t know how he can come back to the Broncos.  They’ve already taken that cap hit.  I don’t know how he can come back, but I hope somehow they work it out.”

Washington also says that he thinks that John Elway is committed to putting together a Super Bowl worthy team this offseason.

“I think that John is gearing up for a Super Bowl run.  Everybody’s talking about Wes Welker and the things that he’s going to do for those wideouts in the slot – And it’s going to be unbelievable…But Vazquez, I think he’s going to solidify the interior of the Offensive Line.”

Although he implies that the Broncos are probably the team to beat right now, he admits that their biggest challenger may possibly be the Seattle Seahawks with the addition of Percy Harvin.

“I think that’s going to be a difference maker.  See I think Pete knew that they needed a difference maker out wide.  He tried to get T.O. and that didn’t work out.  They tried to get Braylon Edwards…They definitely have a championship defense, but putting Percy Harvin over there – They’re getting there.  They’re going to have to get a couple more pieces in the draft, but they’re going to be somebody that’s going to be reckoned with in the AFC.”
