Vancouver Police say that two people were injured Saturday afternoon after a power boat ran aground at Wintler Park Beach. The accident happened around 3:30pm. Witnesses say that
a 28 foot Nordic hit one person in the water before coming aground and hitting another on the beach. Both suffered non life-threatening injuries. 35 year old Derek Dinwiddie was driving the boat and is cooperating with investigators. There were several people in the boat and none reported any injuries. It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the collision at this time.Vancouver Police Officers turned the investigation over to the Clark County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit for further investigation. Deputies from the Marine Unit arrived on scene and impounded the power boat for further investigation. The area of the Wintler Park Beach does have restrictions on power boats relating to speed and distance.
