Robert Mazur was a DEA Agent who worked undercover for the Medellin Cartel and he was responsible for helping to bring down own of the most well-known drug dealers and criminals in history, Pablo Escobar. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Wednesday to share his incredible story.
Mazur suggests that even with all the danger he faced, there was never any point when he thought about breaking character – Largely because he knew his life would be over.“I was trained for 14 years to get into that position. I had the tremendous benefit of training from some really talented people and a lot of support from a team that was a around me. So no, breaking cover was never an option.”
Mazur also insists that perhaps the most important thing for him to do during his time undercover was stay calm and never show his nerves.
“I tried to suppress any outward appearance of being nervous and there were many many times when inside I might have been glued to the ceiling, but outside, I hope I didn’t show that.”
And finally, Mazur insists that although he was in constant danger every day, there were definitely people who dealt with more dangerous situations than he did.
“I had a role of being a sophisticated money launderer. So I wound up not necessarily dealing with a lot of the people who would stick a knife in you. I dealt with the people who told those people to stick knives in people.”
Take a listen to the incredible interview and be sure to check out the book and the movie that’s coming out soon.
