Butts Ruled Incompetent

Residents in Rainier are not happy with a judge's ruling that found Daniel Butts unfit to stand trial for murder of police chief Ralph Painter. Among those most vocal, Rainier Mayor Jerry Cole.   He tells the Longview Daily News that he  believes Butts is just playing the system... saying that the the family, citizens and friends Ralph deserve to see Daniel have his day in court.   But not everyone is upset... with City Councilman Steve Massey calling the decision by Judge Ted  Grove the right one.  He points out that programs for the mentally ill have eroded over the years... abandoning people who need the most help.  Butts will be sent to a mental hospital in Salem until he's deemed fit for trial, something that could take years.
