Davis Prepares for Clash with the 49ers

DJ Davis was one of the most successful wide receivers in the history of the Oregon Ducks program, while also being noted as on of the most unselfish for his habit of going downfield to block.  He is now a reserve wide receiver for the number-one seed Atlanta Falcolns.  He joined Chad on Flight 750 Friday to discuss the big NFC Championship matchup Sunday versus the San Francisco 49ers.

Davis insists that even though he has graduated from college, that has not stopped him from trying to learn as much as he can about the NFL.

“Anytime you get the chance to learn something from some older guys, you take full advantage of it.  We have a Pro-Bowl receiver in Roddy White, a Pro-Bowl receiver in Julio Jones and a Hall of Famer in Tight End Tony Gonzalez.  It’s just good for me to see how I should be handling myself in this situation.”

Davis also talked about the way the team prepares during the playoffs compared to how they would prepare during the regular season.  He insists that aside from the matchup the preparation and the practice routine are pretty much the same.

“The practices are still pretty relaxed.  We just know we have to have precise focus everyday we’re there.  Nobody’s really fooling around or anything like that.  When we’re at the practice facility, it’s just all about taking care of business and learning more about the 49ers and how our game plan can help us win on Sunday.”

And finally, Davis talked about what his Falcons our going to have to do Sunday if they want to take the next step and represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

“I think we need to be able to run the ball a little bit.  We just can’t be one-dimensional.  Even though we do have some great receivers and great playmakers out there, you can’t just put the ball in Matt’s hand and let him throw the ball 60-70 times a game.”
