Last week there were a lot of stories coming out of NBA circles that the Sacramento Kings were being sold to Seattle and that the NBA was heading back to the Emerald City. Softy from 950 KJR joined Chad on Flight 750 to talk about those rumors and the possibility of the Northwest renewing the I-5 Rivalry.
Although it seems like a pretty likely possibility that the Kings are heading to the North, Softy has his reservations about the move actually happening.
“Until it’s officially announced, until Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer say it’s finished, I’m going to hold off popping the champagne.”
Softy also talked about the arena possibilities, and he explains that one of the most important things for these groups to do if a team comes to Seattle is to build a nice arena.
“When you build an arena, make sure you’re building a state of the art arena. Do not go cheap…If you’re going to build an arena, make sure you’re ahead of your time, not behind the times, because it will cost you.”
And finally, Softy had some empathetic words for the Sacramento Kings and their fan base in the event that they do lose the team.
“You’re never going to hear me say a bad word about the Sacramento Kings fans. You’ll never hear me accuse them of not supporting that basketball team…That’s never going to be the case with me because I know exactly what they’re going through and even more so than us in some ways because they don’t have an NFL Football team. They don’t have a major University football program or basketball program down in Sacramento. This is their whole identity.”
Take a listen to the interview and be sure to look for Softy on 950 KJR or Comcast Sportsnet from 10:00am-1:00pm every weekday.
