A flight instructor and his teenage student were killed Wednesday night when their Cessna 150 crashed in Columbia County.

The small plane took off from Pearson Field Airport in Vancouver around 5:00pm and was due back in an hour.  The pilot's wife reported him overdue, but the sheriff's office didn't learn of it until midnight.  An overnight search led to the wreckage in a hay field in the Deer Island area.

The flight instructor was 47-year-old Todd Norrish from Camas.  Authorities found the crash site through a signal from his cell phone.  The student is identified as 17-year-old Jimmy Kravets of Vancouver.  The plane was severely damaged and the bodies of both were found inside.
